LWVFL CHARTER SCHOOL STUDY
In 2012-13 the League initiated a study to better understand the oversight of public moneys that are allocated to charter schools and other private educational institutions. The League's consensus on charter schools recognizes first and foremost it is a paramount duty of the state to provide for education and that charter schools, while privately owned and managed, are under contract to public school districts, funded by the public and must be accountable to the public. The League does not support direct or indirect tax credit funding for private schools.
OPEN PRIMARY STUDY KIT
The state League is conducting a statewide League study on Florida's Primary System. The Open Primary Study Kit includes the Executive Summary (the reasons for the study, the key findings and the key elements of the study) and the Consensus Statements. There is a discussion following each statement including pros and cons where appropriate.
VOLUNTARY PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM
As part of the League's 2015-16 initiatives, LWVTRI undertook a project to educate the members and the community on Florida's Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program. In Phase 1, League members interviewed directors of the Early Learning Coalitions in the tri-county area. In Phase 2, members visited VPK classrooms in each county and interviewed owners/directors and teachers.
