Background Information on the CRC
The Florida Constitution mandates the formation of a Constitution Revision Commission every 20 years for the purpose of examining and proposing amendments to the state's constitution. The current commission was appointed in 2017; the amendments it is proposing will be placed on the ballot in November 2018. Florida is the only state that has a commission which meets on a set schedule and puts items directly on the ballot for ratification by the voters.
The CRC is comprised of 37 members: the Attorney General of Florida, plus 15 members appointed by the Governor, 9 appointed by the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, 9 appointed by the President of the Florida Senate, and 3 appointed by the Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court.
This process is summarized in the CRC Timeline.
